Vision

God has given the Hearts for Heaven family, a love for His Word and a love for the lost. The purpose of this ministry is to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed.  We strive to assist the poor so they can experience the message of Christ's love for them.  We want to disciple the believers, especially the children, so they can mature in their walk with Christ and influence others.

Hearts For Heaven is a ministry that hosts medical, construction, evangelism, and children's ministry short-term mission teams in order to multiply our efforts and give them the opportunity to share the love of Christ to the needy.  The vision to share the Word of God doesn't just stop with Guatemala.  We want to inspire as many people as possible to become missionaries in Guatemala and around the world.

History

The Briggs left the beautiful western NC mountains.
Roger and Beth Briggs were married and graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in May, 1975.  For seventeen years they operated a busy dental practice in Hayesville located in the mountains of western North Carolina.  In January, 1985, after their first three children were born, they began traveling to Guatemala doing dental outreach to the Mayan Indians of the Central Highlands.  Six years & many trips later they felt that God was directing them to move full time to work as dental missionaries.

They sold their dental practice in December, 1991 and the family of six moved to Dallas, Texas to receive Bible and missionary training from Christ for the Nations Institute. Upon completing their studies in 1994, the Briggs moved to Guatemala and started Hearts for Heaven. During the next seven years the Briggs saw many come to Christ as they did dentistry under banana trees, on porches, in public schools, in village churches with dirt floors, under leaning shelters, and many other settings!

In February of 2000,  Roger and Beth felt that God was instructing them to help meet the nutritional needs that are so prevalent among the children of Guatemala. Construction teams began building churches and feeding centers where children could receive the word of God and a good hot lunch. To date this ministry has expanded to 3 feeding centers feeding over 500 kids a week.

In 2005 the Briggs began to split time between the Guatemala and Charlotte, NC which opened the door for other families from the states to move to Guatemala full time to help with the ministry. Allen & Sheila Borgen's family joined Hearts for Heaven and served from 2005-2008.  As they left, Kevin & Becky Miller's family served from 2008-2011. Roger and Beth’s daughter Rachel and her husband David and their kids served for about a year in 2012-2013.  There is currently an opportunity for an individual or family to be the hands and feet of Christ (and the ministry) in Guatemala.  Let us know if you are interested.
