 Learning to Read Minimize

DSC_0088 Nilsi Cup.JPG  Nilsi teaches the Learn to Read children here in the capital at La Primavera.  She has completed the educational requirements for becoming a certified teacher.    When you visit her small room full of preschoolers, your spirits will be lifted by the energy of the children and the beautiful posters and crafts on the wall, not to mention their beautiful smiles and songs they are so eager to demonstrate.

Juan is the teacher in Santo Domingo.  His classroom is a bit more serious in nature, as the room is large enough for each child to sit orderly in their own desk.  The walls have recently been improved so the heavy rains don't run down the walls.  These walls are beginning to demonstrate the acheivements of the precious children in his class.

 National Director Minimize

Oscar Martin with his wife Telma and son Jonathan.

IMG_3843 O & T Close Up2.JPG

Oscar is our National Director and is a very enthusiastic christian who loves the Lord and enjoys helping the poorest of Guatemala (a condition he was all too familiar with as a child).  He has been developing skills in children's ministry and pastoral care.  In fact Oscar and Telma both recently graduated from a three year Children Educator's Program.

Oscar is our main liason between the missionaries and the ministry.  Oscar oversees each of the three feeding center directors, both Learn to Read teachers, the publication and distribution of the children's Bible literature, purchace and distribution of the food, and many other tasks involved in the daily ministry here.

Oscar's delightful wife, Telma, is the director of the feeding center at La Primavera.  She is also very involved in most aspects of the daily operation of the ministry and is a very valuable resource for helping us reach out with compassion to the kids of Guatemala.

DSC_1423 Hugo & Dorothy cu.JPG  Pastor Hugo is the pastor of the church in San Antonio Buena Vista where our second feeding center is located.  His wife Dora is the director of this feeding center.  The children of this community were extremely shy and sceptical of outsiders.  Since the feeding center was built and many families have been assisted, the children (and parents) are beginning to open up to the hope of Christ.

IMG_3620 Cooks cu.JPG  Lydia is the director of the feeding center in Santo Domingo.  These children practically run to the church when our van pulls up.  They love to greet us, sing for us, and have their pictures taken.  They also enjoy any gifts or activities we can provide since there is not much outside influence  Their village is about 20 minutes off the beaten path.

Each feeding center has 4 to 5 ladies who volunteer to prepare the food and facilities for the influx of hungry children.  Donations are given these ladies each week based on the generousity of the supporters of these programs.  These women typically prepare over 1,000 hand made tortillas each morning, as well as making sure the rest of the nutritious food is prepared and served.  These ladies are the hands and feet of the ministry, and every plate they serve is a demonstration of the love of Christ for the needy children of the world.
